Your adventures in Peru begin in the thriving lake port of Puno. You see archeological sites, and the floating totora reed island homes of the Uros people. (above) The reeds are also used the for food, animal fodder and to build their famous reed boats, after which Thor Heyerdahl's famous Ra II was patterned.

Bus to Cusco, stopping en route to visit the remarkable remains of the Temple of Wiracocha, ancient Inca center. Then on to Cusco, the colorful capital of the Inca empire, where fine Colonial architecture rests on foundations of remarkable Inca stonework, and museum treasures abound and colorful markets beckon.

You'll tour Inca sites around the city, then travel to the Sacred Valley, gateway to Machu Picchu, to see monumental remains of Inca cities in this lush valley of the Urubamba River.

The following day you have the option of an additional visit to the archeological site, where an easy climb takes you to the Sun Gate, the traditional entrance from the Inca Trail to the Sacred City.

You may choose a short hike to one of the summits or to the amazing Inca bridge. In the afternoon you return to Cusco by train, fly to Lima the next morning, and depart that night or the following morning for home, bringing a treasure of memories to last a lifetime.
